Willow

Starring Warwick Davis, and Val Kilmer

Willow is George Lucas’ attempt to break into the rarely lucrative world of fantasy films. True, he didn’t direct Willow, but he came up with the basic plot and served as a producer. The only fantasy films I can think of that didn’t flopped are Conan the Barbarian and… Seriously, Conan the Barbarian is probably the only example of a commercially successful fantasy film. [e.n. - though it probably should not have done well, due to the fact that it's based on a Marvel Comic.]

One day Willow (Warwick Davis) finds a human baby by a river near his farm. He decides to take the baby on an adventure that involves Val Kilmer and the fate of the world.

Willow was the first movie to use the morphing special effect, and it actually works quite well. A two headed dragon looking remarkably like the monster that fights Luke Skywalker in Jabba’s palace looks really fake. The other special effects are good, but not nearly as good as the fantastic music. I really don’t know why this movie did poorly, but it might have been backlash against over aggressive marketing.

I give Willow *** out of ****.
