In 1983 the government decides to replace all manual control stations, for nuclear launch silos, with computers. One day while searching through a telephone number exchange, a young hacker, named David Lightman, stumbles into the main computer in one of the countries defense departments. He believes that he has found a computer with games on it. Little does he know, that by playing these games, he may unwittingly set off World War 3. This early-Eighties film about the folly of nuclear warfare, happens to include the earliest example of a hacker in any movie. It is also the most accurate portrayal of a hacker than any other movie. Other than that, I find this movie to be damn entertaining. Matthew Broderick gives a solid acting performance, and the plot is brilliant. After having watched this movie many times, it never seems to get old. If you movies from Eighties, Matthew Broderick, or you're a hacker, I order you to watch this movie. Memorize it if you have to. I give it **** outof **** Go see it now |
