Kevin Smith has claimed that Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back will be the last "View Askew" movie. All four of his previous movies (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, and Dogma) took place in New Jersey and had character references to characters in previous movies, with Jay and Silent Bob being the only characters being in all four movies. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is about Jay and Silent Bob trying to get to Hollywood to stop a Bluntman and Chronic movie from being made. If you have never seen a Kevin Smith movie before, don't start with this one. At least half of the references and in-jokes refer to his older movies, so rent some of his other stuff so you can get the jokes. For the most part, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is a funny movie. The pacing is sometimes off, I could have lived without the love interest, but it manages to spoof some movies while having awesome cameos. I think some of the jokes where the characters break the fourth wall are done a little bit too much, though. Mark Hamill is very funny in his cameo. I'm sort of he surprised he was willing to play the part he played! I give Jay and Silent Bob Strike
Back *** out of ****. Kevin Smith has finally decided to end his View Askew series with a bang. This last look into the world of Jay and Silent Bob, is a sort of gift to all of his fans that have been watching his movies since Clerks. Because of this, the movie contains a lot of references to his previous four films. If you are a big fan of Kevin Smith, what I saw, isn't going to stop you from watching it, nor will it cause you to watch it again. There really isn't much of a point in reviewing this movie. I do recommend that every fan of comedy and movies that don't suck, go out and watch Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, then go and see Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. **** out of **** |
