Josh Brolin is Corey Webster, a young hot-shot skate boarder, who is staying in L.A. with some friends, so that he can compete in the big L.A. skate boarding competition. Everythings going fine at first, until he meets a gang of mean skaters, known as the Daggers, that are lead by Hook. Corey Webster also falls for some girl who happens to be Hooks sister! This movie definately has to be the
greatest skate boarding movie from the 80's that starred Josh
Brolin. Thrashin' also includes whatnis perhaps the most amazing
music/skate boarding sequences I've ever seen in a movie. I'm
trying to think of at least one thing that was bad about this,
but I really can't. It's a near perfect movie. The Dialogue is a amazing, the acting is convincing, and the directing is flawless. I'm pretty sure that this movie, in part, inspired the NES game, Skate or Die.
The graphitti in the backround, on the right, caught my eye, during the "Joust" sequence between Corey and Hook. One of the cooler parts of the movie, is the "L.A. Massacre" sequence at the end. The L.A. Massacre is an annual downhill race, with skate boarders reaching 50 miles an hour, at some points. Due to the high speed of the race, when a racers falls, they pretty much done with the race, since they won't be able to catch up. As Skaters are eliminated, it comes down between Hook and Corey Webster, as the two go neck and neck to finish the race. I won't reveal the ending, but I'll leave you with this image. I give it a hearty **** out of **** |
