Travolta has not had much of a career lately. He was great in Pulp Fiction, awesome in Get Shorty, and then his career took a nose-dive as he starred in such gems as Michael, Phenomenon, and Battlefield Earth. Does he have any of his coolness left in Swordfish? Swordfish is about a hacker who recently came out of jail for a few years. He wants to reunite with his daughter, but his ex-wife has a restraining order on him. When a sexy woman offers him $100,000 just to meet John Travolta to talk about a business opportunity, the hacker takes her up on the situation. Swordfish is the best of these kind of action films I've seen recently. The pace was pretty good throughout and it had some memorable scenes: a huge explosion at the beginning and a car-chase sequence where Travolta is shooting at cars while driving through alley-ways at blazing speeds. I'm not sure how accurate the computer jargon was in the movie, but it sounded more accurate than most. Zack would probably be a better judge on that than me. They do use terms like "128-bit encryption" as opposed to "We have great security." John Travolta does a really good job playing an asshole. The guy who plays the hacker was the guy who was Wolverine in the X-Men movie. He does a poor job in the movie, acting everything on a "tough guy" note. I enjoyed how Swordfish used the Matrix effect only twice and it worked in those two instances. I give Swordfish *** out of ****.
