The original Scream certainly has a brilliant opening scene. Drew Barrymore is cooking some Jiffy Pop, preparing to watch a scary movie. The phone rings. She picks it up. Hello? Do you like scary movies? For the next ten minutes, one of the coolest openings to a horror movie displays itself on the screen. Unfortunately, this is the best ten minutes of the whole movie! The plot revolves around a series of murders in a suburban town. A great thing about Scream is the fact that the killer could always be more than one person. Just when you think youve got it figured out, another plot twist throws you for a loop. That being said, one of the killers in the movie has no reasonable motive at all. Scream also ends a bit too soon, making you wonder if it was just a way to skip over plot holes. Is Scream more scary or funny? While I got more of the humor the second time around, I still wouldnt call the movie hilarious or anything. Apart from the opening scene, nothing is really very scary with this movie. The funniest scene is probably the 3 Rules of Horror Movies scene. Watch this if you want to see a decent, well paced horror film. I give Scream *** out of ****. Having seen many horror movies, I was able to appreciate this movie. It was a pretty good spoof on horror movies. Now I'd just like to add somethng about what Mat said. In the first Scream you assume that there is only one killer, because there is no way of knowing that there are two. Mat just gave away one of the unique plot points. He does that, sometimes. Actually, this one was the only Scream to have two killers. As for the shortness of the movies, most horror movie are about an hour and a half. Horror movies are not supposed to have much depth to them. **** out of **** |
