Sammy Jackson and
Tom Jones are marines who fought in Vietnam. 28 years
later, Sam orders his troops to fire on a restless Yemenese crowd.
He gets
court martialed. The government does some pretty damned corrupt
stuff to try
to convict him.
That's a basic plot summary of Rules
of Engagement.
Basically, this movie has Samuel L. Jackson. Sam Jackson is
the man. He
pulled off shaft, for crying out loud. Not many people could
do that. Man,
Samuel L. Jackson is amazing. He pretty much makes this movie.
This movie was good. It was well-paced,
which is a problem a lot of dramas
run in to. Even when they were just explicating the plot, they
managed to
keep it interesting and moderately paced, which is important.
The directing was pretty nondescript. It neither added nor took
away from the
movie.
This movie was pretty much average, except for Samuel L. Jackson.
One problem with this movie was Tommy Lee Jones. I really--really--don't
like
Tommy Lee Jones. He managed to keep pretty low profile, while
not ruining the
movie, so i give that to his credit.
Basically, this movie had a sharp plot, a crisp pace, and Samuel
L. Jackson,
and to me, that's good enough for:
3 stars out of 4
See this movie if you want a well-done military drama and A Few
Good Men is
already checked out.
