After writing the reviews to Robocop 2 and 3, I figured I might as well write a review for the first movie. Robocop actually won an Oscar for Best Sound Effects Editing. Some of you might wonder, what is sound effects editing? Imagine a man walking in some mud. The sound effects of a squishy sound of a shoe hitting the mud would be good sound effects editing, the random meow of a cat would be bad editing. [e.n. - that doesn't make much sense] The movie starts out with Peter Weller as Alex Murphy, a cop in New Detroit. After a dangerous mission, Peter Weller gets shot up and is brought back to life as Robocop. This movie is by far the best in the series, with some funny moments laced throughout. A scene at the end involving Robocop fighting thugs in a junkyard goes on for too long, as do some of the films final scenesone showdown apparently isnt enough because the film has at least two of them. The plot moves along at a decent pace, and the body count is highwhich shouldnt come as a surprise since the director of Robocop also directed Starship Troopers and Basic Instinct. I would recommend this movie to science fiction fans or people wanting to see science-fiction action done right. I give Robocop ***1/2 out of ****. |
