Police Story 3: Supercop

Starring Jackie Chan, and Michelle Yeoh

E-mail me if I'm wrong on this, but Supercop was the first Jackie Chan movie in the Police Story series to be released in the United States theatrically. After New Line Cinema released Rumble in the Bronx, they also bought the rights to a lot of old Jackie Chan films. Called Supercop in the US, in Hong Kong it was known as Police Story 3: Supercop. Why New Line Cinema didn't release Supercop as Police Story: Supercop in order to release the other movies in the series as a franchise is a question I wonder about sometimes. I better start writing the review before I bore you people reading this! Supercop involves Jackie Chan investigating a case. I really don't remember the plot of this movie too much. What I do remember is that this movie is packed with action, mainly gunplay. The directing is good, the action scenes are cool, but, like my complaint with the original Police Story, there's very little evidence of Jackie Chan's influence in this movie. On the positive side, Michelle Yeoh does a very good job here proving that women action heroes are decent as long as they can learn the fighting moves. Michelle Yeoh could kick Cameron Diaz's, Lucy Liu's, and Drew Barrymore's asses any day of the week. She is the main reason to see this movie.
I give Police Story 3: Supercop **1/2 out of ****.
