Permanent Midnight

Starring Ben Stiller, and Elizabeth Hurley

Mat

Permanent Midnight is not a horror movie, although it would be a great title for one.
Permanent Midnight has Ben Stiller portraying a heroine addict who writes for a show starring a puppet that is supposed to be Alf! Yes, Alf-the brown guy
with the pig nose who ate cats. Elizabeth Hurley is a girl he marries to help her get her green card. Ben Stiller shoots up, screws women, and mulls over whether is
was a good decision for him to do a dramatic role. Permanent Midnight is a funny movie, but it definitely has a lead that other actors would be dying to play.
Ben Stiller does a really good job in the role. I assume his drug use was accurate, but I really can't vouch for that. Maybe he picked this movie to screw with
lots of women, including a German chick who, as she nears climax, shouts, "I am fucking a Jew!" Elizabeth Hurley brings class to her role, but just acts it on one note.

I give Permanent Midnight *** out of ****.

Ben Stiller writes episodes for Alf, while maintaining a steady heroin habit with hilarious results. The thing that bothered me about this movie was that it was funnier than it probably should have been. It was like Train Spotting, where it basically shows that heavy drug is never a good idea, yet it portrays it in such a humorous light. I'm sure that most of the humor was unitentional, but on the other hand, I don't believe that the people involved didn't notice how funny it was. Oh well.

I'm not always proud to admit, (meet the parents) but I happen to like Ben Stiller. I was a fan of him during his "The Ben Stiller Show" days. He does an excellent job in this movie.

***1/2 out of ****
