Mortal Kombat: Annihilation

Mat

I enjoyed the first Mortal Kombat movie. I would even go so far as to call it one of my top ten movies from the 1990’s. Mortal Kombat: Annihilation starts off on the right foot—it picks up right where the original left off! After the first fight scene, it becomes obvious that you are going to be tortured with 90 minutes of pure crap. The fight scenes use slow-motion at the most random times, the CG is awful, and the story is non-existent.

The main flaw in this movie, and a major one at that, is that the screenwriters decided to throw every single character from the video games MK and MK 2 into one movie. In one scene, a character fights Scorpion only to have Sub Zero help him. Sub Zero promises, “You owe me one.” That is Sub Zero’s final appearance in the movie. The fight scenes are mediocre, the highlight being a mud-wrestling bout between Sonya Blade and Jade. The actress who portrayed Sonya Blade in this movie was better than the one they used in Mortal Kombat. The music is just as good, if not better, than the music in the first movie.

This movie is pure torture, one hundred percent garbage.

I give Mortal Kombat: Annihilation *1/2 out of ****.

Mortal Kombat :Annihilation is really, really bad. That pretty much sums it up. They kill off the character that I liked in the first ten minutes. Jax learns that fighting with his real arms works better against Motoro(?), the centaur, than his bionic arms do. Which happens to make little sense. They also, didn't include the character, Kung Lao. My favorite character in MK2. Subzero and Scorpion return, despite being killed in the first one, and Raiden's screen presence iseven more painful the second time around.

* out of ****
