INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE is based on the first book of a best-selling series of books by Anne Rice called The Vampire Chronicles. I read the book before watching the movie. But they leave out stuff from the book in the movie, so I am not going to base this review on how it was different than the book since you probably haven't read it. I just have to say if you like this movie, read the book. They are different. The movie has Christian Slater interviewing Louis (Brad Pitt) about his life as a vampire. Christian Slater does much better than he should in his role that has about as many lines as fingers on your hands. He has a personality that he takes Louis' story with a grain of salt at first, and then believes it more and more as it goes on. I wish the same could be said for Brad Pitt. He gets the emotions right in his expressions at the right times. But when he speaks, it sounds very dead. Maybe Brad's logic was this: Vampires are undead. They must sound dead. I really don't know what he was thinking. Brad has the lead role as Louis and doesn't put any energy in it. The plot is sort of like little mini "episodes" of something you would see on TV. It begins with Louis becoming a vampire by being bitten and drinking the blood of Lestat (Tom Cruise). Then it tells about them living together and then getting another vampire companion and continues on from there. I would tell you to see this movie if you have read the book or if you want to see an original vampire story. I give INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE *** out of ****. |
