Hearts in Atlantis

Starring Anthony Hopkins

I bought the book of Hearts in Atlantis when it first became a paperback. I really enjoyed it probably because it was different from a lot of Stephen King's other novels (Salem's Lot, Desperation, etc.). It had more in common with Stand By Me than a lot of his other works. Does the movie hold up?

Hearts in Atlantis is about a little kid who has a mean mother. One day Anthony Hopkins comes to stay in their extra room. The kid notices some strange things that Anthony Hopkins does, including a request to stay away from "low men in yellow coats."

The book was better than the movie. To be fair, the book had 2 novellas and 2 short stories and this movie covers half of the material in the book. Oddly enough, they didn't pick the novella that was actually called "Hearts in Atlantis", which was probably my favorite part of the book.

Anthony Hopkins does a good acting job. Slow-motion is over-used in the movie. The ending is a little bit cheesy.

I thought it was good, but the book is better. They changed some stuff from the book, including a lot of references from The Dark Tower series.

I give Hearts of Atlantis *** out of ****.
