Most movie sequels are worst than the original: Highlander 2- The Quickening, The Nutty Professor 2- The Klumps, and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. A select few are superior: The Empire Strikes Back, Godfather II, and Gremlins 2: The New Batch. No, you're not misreading-I did put Gremlins 2 in the same sentence as Godfather II. The plot of Gremlins 2 is hardly dealt with in the movie at all. Gizmo ends up with the guy from the first movie, who happens to work at the same Ted Turner-ish company as Phoebe Cates. A broken water fountain splashes water on Gizmo and the shit hits the fan. While the original Gremlins movie (see Extreme Movie Watching: The Corey-thon) spent too long building up the plot, this one just lets those wacky Gremlins loose. Most of the movie is very funny and some of the special effects are decent. Gremlins 2 is one of the better sci-fi comedies out there. The only thing I miss in this movie are some of the Dad's wacky inventions as well as the Chinese man. Watch this one… Or better yet, buy it.

Now for those of you who haven't read the Extreme Movie Watching section, the first Gremlins sucked. It took too long for the Gremlins to appear, and it all came from Billy being a jack ass. It also didn't have enough Corey Feldman, but that's another thing altogether. Gremlins 2 takes place a number of years later. Billy now lives in New York city. He somehow comes back in contact with little Gizmo, who gets splashed by water. Then the evil mogwais eat after midnight and the gremlins infest a large building in the middle of New York City. Billy has until night fall to stop the gremlins before they ca leave the building and infest all of New York.

I love this movie. It's got different types of gremlins, it has celebrity cameos (Leonard Maltin, Hulk Hogan), and it has the crazy neighbor from the first Gremlins. I like the different gremlins: Electro-gremlins, smart gremlin, bat-gremlins, spider-gremlin, female gremlins, and the vegetable gremlin. It hads awesome destruction scenes. It's basically liike the first one, only more gremlins, it's goofier, and it has a better setting.
