Freddy Got Fingered

Starring Tom Green, and Rip Torn

Mat

Tom Green first became famous for his MTV show where he did wacky things to people. Then he married Drew Barrymore. [E.N.- Tom Green hasn't married Drew Barrymore. But they are engaged.] Now he’s in his directorial debut, which he also co-wrote: Freddy Got Fingered.

Freddy Got Fingered is about Tom Green, a cartoonist who leaves Rip Torn’s (Tom Green’s Dad) house to make a living in L.A. Things don’t work out, so he returns home to deal with Rip Torn and their family issues.

Freddy Got Fingered has a lot of funny parts that work. It also can’t make up its mind whether to be funny (Tom Green prancing around covered in deer entrails) or to be serious (Tom Green wailing about, “I want to make my Daddy proud!”). Although I thought his show was funny, here a lot of the jokes go on for too long. One of these scenes has Tom Green’s wheelchair-bound girlfriend wanting to be caned for pleasure. He smacks her on the leg, softly. He continues to whack at her with the cane harder and harder as she squeals away. This continues for quite some time until she finally gets whacked in the head by accident.

The acting really isn’t too bad. Rip Torn does a good job, Anthony Michael Hall is hilarious as the head of an animation studio, and Drew Barrymore has a funny cameo. Tom Green’s directing works out pretty well, except for the opening credits where it will show a clip, freeze-frame, and then show the same clip over again. A big problem with Freddy Got Fingered is having the majority of the movie being set at Tom Green’s parents’ home. I don’t know about you, but I would rather see a movie where Tom Green is traipsing about Hollywood than one where he argues with his parents!

I give Freddy Got Fingered ** out of ****.

One the main things that I think will hurt this film, is that not a lot of people really understand that there is more to Tom Green's humor than annoying people. I loved Freddy Got Fingered, because I happen to think he's hilarious, but when most think of Tom Green, they want to see people in public getting mad at him.

This movie contains some great scenes mixed some a storyline about Tom Green's feud with his father. Since Mat is unable to appreciate comedy, he didn't like it. But he also like Sister Act, so opinion doesn't really mean anything.

I give it ***1/2 out of ****
