This is a movie by the same director (Gus Van Sant?) who did Good Will Hunting, which was a pretty good movie. This movie has a similar feel and tone and similar characters to that movie. It definitely borrows from the formula of Good Will Hunting. Basically there's this kid in New York who is a really good writer and basketball player. He encounters Sean Connery who turns out to be a famous writer. Sean teaches him how to write. He struggles with acceptance in his new school. Yada yada yada, and all that jazz. First off this movie had sean connery. Now, Sean Connery may have starred in Thunderball and Entrapment, but he's still really cool. Plus, as anyone who has seen the previews can attest to, he says "you the man now, dog" in the movie, and it's really cool. So, this movie had good acting, good directing, and a pretty hackneyed and predictable storyline. I give it a 2.5 out of 4 |
