The trailer for Evolution was very lame. It looked like a cheesy attempt at trying to capitalize on the fame of the Ghostbusters movies. It's even directed by the same guy who directed Ghostbusters I and Ghostbusters II: Ivan Reitman. Evolution is about an asteroid that crashes into Earth. New life starts to form on the asteroid and starts to evolve rather quickly. Two college professors, David Duchovny and Orlando Jones, team up with CDC member Julianne Moore and fireman-in-training Sean William Scott to stop the alien menace. The story in Evolution is very weak. You never feel anything for the characters. The acting ranges from OK (David Duchovny, Orlando Jones) to bad (Julianne Moore, Sean William Scott). Ghostbusters was entertaining, funny, and ran at a good pace. Evolution is boring, unfunny, and is sluggish at parts. The good decent thing of Evolution is the special effects. They are top-notch the whole way through. It's interesting to see how the alien creatures evolve from fungus to giant winged creatures. Evolution is not the worse movie I've seen this summer (so far, that award goes to Driven). It excels in its mediocrity. I give Evolution ** out of ****. |
