Down to Earth

Starring Chris Rock, Eugene Levy, and Wanda Sykes

Chris Rock dies before he was supposed to, so now he gets the chance to come back in the body of his choosing. In order to have a chance with a women that he falls in love with, he chooses the body of an old white rich guy. Zany antics ensue, as a poor young black comedian, gets used to being an old white rich guy, while attempting to woo a young female, and some how living his dream to not be booed off of the stage at the Apollo.

This movie is actually based on the screenplay of the 1978 film "Heaven Can Wait" which starred Warren Beaty. The originally script writers for Heaven Can Wait are even credited in Down to Earth. The primary difference between the two movies is that this one, seems to be a vehicle for Chris Rock's stand-up talent. Being a fan of Chris Rock, I thought the movie was hilarious. I also like how some of the shots were done, like when Chris Rock plays golf, and the guy he hits is off frame at first, so you don't expect it, (that is, of course, for those of us who saw the trailer.)

The characters were likable, the movie itself was darn entertaining.

I give it ***1/2 out of ****
