Dogma

Starring Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Selma Heyak, and Chris Rock

After Mallrats, a movie which many critics panned, Kevin Smith decided to do an independent movie at a much smaller budget, Chasing Amy. Chasing Amy is definitely the most serious of all the Kevin Smith movies out so far; it’s not that there aren’t funny parts, it’s just that the romance relationship between Ben Affleck and Amy is more important than the many jokes.

Chasing Amy is about two cartoonists, Ben Affleck and Jason Lee, who are both single. Ben Affleck finds a girl named Amy is falls head over heals for her, but he discovers that she’s a lesbian.

Chasing Amy is probably one of Kevin Smith’s best written movies. All of the characters seem more realistic than in his other movies and offer interesting questions with no real answers to the audience. Even Jay and Silent Bob, who usually make a funny cameo, show up to make a serious point in the plot. Chasing Amy is probably not the best date movie, but it might one of the smartest ones.

I give Chasing Amy *** out of ****.
