Digimon: The Movie

Starring soe digimons, I guess

Before i give the review, let me tell you a little story.

I'm not sure how it started. My brother used to watch Digimon all the time,
so I guess I must have watched it with him a few times. Then I would watch it
every once in a while, even when he wasn't there; if there was nothing better
on.
Well, let me come clean. I'm pretty much addicted to the show Digimon. So I
had to watch the movie. So off me and my brother went.

Well, watching such a popular movie at the peak movie hour of 225 on a
tuesday, i was surprised to learn that my brother and I were the ONLY people
in the entire theater. I mean, seriously, why would you have a showing of the
movie at a time when every single person who wants to watch the movie is in
school. That can't be good marketing.

Here's the plot lowdown. This evil Digimon, whose name escapes me, takes over
the internet and phone lines. The Digidestined, using there digimon,
digivolve and digivolve, and, after a lot of crap, eventually defeat this
digital dynamo. Or so it would seem. The virus that created this evil
digimon, shows up again in a new digimon bent on destroying this kid named
willis (who, i swear, never, ever, ever, appears in the television show). A
lot more crap and eventually they defeat that guy too. Then the movie ends.

I could see this movie being very very confusing to somebody who has never
seen the show (The whole thing with Omnimon made no sense even to me, though I
have seen almost all the episodes of the show.) The movie really wasn't
faithful to the show (though it's really sad that i know that). For inky
dink, Matt and TK have no grandmother, and Willis and his digimon plus
omnimon, are not real characters. If you're going to make a movie of a show,
at least use characters who are...actually in the show. There are so many new
digimon introduced in this movie it even makes my head spin.

That said, the animation is pretty good, the action is pretty good, the pace
is pretty good, and i like the voices.
I actually kind of liked this movie, but i tend to like things that are, in
reality, really really headshakingly awful.

So, objectively, digimon obsessions aside, this movie would probably get 2 out
of 4. But i am obsessed with digimon, so my real rating is 3 stars out of 4.

See this movie, if you are a freak like i am.
