You know a movie's in trouble when its two main stars are Quentin Tarantino and James Belushi. You also know a movie's in trouble when the only other recognizable actor in the cast is Bobcat Goldthwait. Destiny Turns On The Radio is about a guy who escapes from jail for two reasons: 1) link up with his brother so he can get his share of money they stole a long time ago and 2) link up with his girlfriend. There's a few problems in the situation however James Belushi is going out with the girlfriend and Quentin Tarantino pops out of an electricity-filled swimming pool to steal the money. Can he get the money, the girl, and lose the cops? The plot in Destiny Turns On The Radio doesn't even get remotely interesting until the final ten minutes. The plot twist in the end of the movie is an intriguing concept and if this movie had the end of the movie be somewhere in the middle, it would have been better off. Quentin Tarantino and James Belushi do an OK job in their roles, everyone else is terrible. This movie was in the Drama section at Blockbuster, but I have no idea why. I think it was intended to be a comedy, but it wasn't funny. There certainly weren't any dramatic parts in it. The movie also has two jazz numbers, each of which are three minutes long. The second one makes sense because an important part of the plot involves a character having to sing onstage, but the first part is during a dream sequence. A little bit of singing in a dream I can understand, but having her sing for three minutes is insane! I give Destiny Turns On The Radio * out of ****. |
