I first saw Chicken Run with Greg a while back in the movie theater. Chicken Run is done by the same people who have worked on Wallace and Gromit, the Oscar winning short films. Unlike Monkeybone, claymation is used. While claymation is similar to stop-motion, both process take a hell of a long time to do. Chicken Run is their first full length project. Chicken Run involves a lot of chickens trying to escape their coop where their evil masters plan to turn them into pies. Mel Gibson, an American rooster, pops in to try and help them. Chicken Run is probably my favorite kids' movie I have seen this past year. The claymation is more entertaining than computer animation, the script is better than most of the animated scripts that are out there, and the voice-acting is excellent. The humor is very British-this isn't a problem for me since I like British humor a lot, and it makes sense because all of the cast are Brits as well as the directors Mel Gibson is the only American voice-actor in the movie! Chicken Run is very funny, the music is excellent, and the directing is very cool. I admire the dark tone some of the scenes have-any animation that isn't anime generally is lighter in tone, more Disney like. I don't think the creators of Chicken Run are going to make a claymation Terminator or anything, but they could if they really wanted to. Chicken Run is worth watching, even if you don't have any kids or younger cousins. I give Chicken Run **** out of ****. |
