I can imagine the meeting Martin Lawrence had with his agent for this movie:

MARTIN: I have a great idea for a movie… I play a guy who has to dress up as a woman!

AGENT: Didn’t Eddie Murphy do that in The Nutty Professor?

MARTIN: But that was for one dinner scene, man! I will be another character for half of my movie!

AGENT: OK, but you’re going to get heat stroke!

Big Momma’s House is obviously an attempt to cash in on Eddie Murphy’s success from The Nutty Professor, except Big Momma’s House isn’t really funny. In The Nutty Professor, Eddie Murphy sounded and acted like a woman with great make-up. In Big Momma’s House, Martin Lawrence fails to sound and act like a woman with mediocre make-up. The jokes aren’t as funny.

An interesting thing about Big Momma’s House is that the bad guy is really made to look really menacing. Whatever actor that played the bad guy did a real good job, but it seems like his performance would work better in an action movie than a comedy!

I give Big Momma’s House *1/2 out of ****.
