The original Beverly Hills Cop is probably the best of Eddie Murphy’s early comedies. It had a skillful blend of action and humor. Beverly Hills Cop 2 is an average sequel at best. The plot is really simple: Eddie Murphy and Judge Reinhold investigate some “ABC Murders” that happen around Beverly Hills. Beverly Hills Cop 2 relies too much on action and not enough on humor. True, there are some funny parts like when Eddie Murphy is at the Playboy Mansion—but these are the exception. At least the action scenes are somewhat decent, but Eddie Murphy isn’t an action hero. Eddie Murphy is a comedian and damn funny when he needs to be. He also has a funny laugh that sounds like someone having an asthma attack. Beverly Hills Cop 2 keeps some of the original music, but not enough. I give Beverly Hills
