Anti-Trust is a movie where the villain
of based off of Bill Gates. The movie doesn't even try to be
subtle about it when it opens with news footage of the bad guy
defending himself in lawsuits claiming his company is a monopoly.
Anti-Trust is about Ryan Phillippe, a computer wizard who is
hired by Tim Robbins' huge company to help program a software
package that will enable people to communicate with everyone
in the world via any medium. Although Richard Roundtree gets
decent billing in the opening credits, he's really in the movie
for around three minutes or so. The plot has a few neat twists,
but it boils down to a few chase scenes in the end of the movie.
The acting ranges from bad to decent-Tim Robbins being decent,
Ryan Phillippe's girlfriend being bad. The music in the movie
ranges from odd to OK, with the opening new-age instrumental
piece decidedly out of place with the faux-HTML credit opening.
Anti-Trust isn't as bad as The Net, but it isn't as good as that
TNT movie about Bill Gates and Steve Jobs either. Anti-Trust was a little upsetting. The story was solid. (or so it seemed.) Yeah, there was bad acting, but the important roles weren't bad at all. Tim Robbins was excellent as a parody of Bill Gates. He dressed like, he acted like a dork, yet was able to quickly break into the angry modd swings that Bill Gates is rumored to have. One thing that I thought was odd, was the fact that almost every computer in the movie was a Mac, but then again, I could go on for quite awhile with the technological errors in this movie, so I won't. I couldn't help not hating Ryan Phillippe, and I've seen I Know What You Did Last Summer, and that terrible movie where he's trying to do Reese Witherspoon. Unfortunately, the movie wasn't perfect. The musical score was a bit odd at the beginning, but got a little better toward. The main problem with the movie was the terrible, terrible directing. It was had bad angles, bad transitions to the next scenes, and just left a lot to be desired. It's really too bad, because this movie could have been so much better. One of the coolest parts of this movie, was when the tape melted. It was cool as hell. I tried to get a picture of it, but it didn't turn out that well. The picture is still in my camera, but the batteries are dead. So when I get new batteries, I'll but the picture up, assuming it hasn't been erased. I give it **1/2 out of **** |
