ANIMAL HOUSE was the first National Lampoon movie. For some this was a good thing. For some this was a bad thing. But one thing was clear- National Lampoon didn't stop making movies after this one. This movie is about two students who go to a fraternity party to see if they will get accepted. The fraternity is called Delta. Even though Delta is put on probation, the members of it drink and manage to have a good time. Which basically means they goof around while getting drunk and getting women. The two students from the beginning of the film get accepted into Delta. They get their nicknames. One is Pinto (Tom Hulce). The other is Flounder. Every other person in the fraternity has a nickname, but one of the funnier characters is Bluto (John Belushi). The movie is mostly an excuse to show off the antics of people in a not-so-perfect fraternity. Sure some "plot" is thrown in by having the Dean put them on "double secret probation"- which means if they screw up one more time, Delta is shut down. The movie is really very funny. John Belushi pulls of some funny scenes in the cafeteria of the high school. The guy named Flounder is very funny as a geek. And there is a hilarious "angel and devil on shoulder" scene with Tom Hulce. I would advise you to see this movie for a good laugh. The main weakness of this film is the overly long ending. This is still a great comedy. I give ANIMAL HOUSE *** out of ****.
