American Psycho

Starring Christian Bale

Mat

American Psycho is a very dark comedy. At work, I told five different people I thought the movie was hilarious and got several strange looks in return. It’s a satire on the 1980’s materialistic attitude as well as yuppie culture. The juxtaposition of a killer talking about the history of Huey Lewis and the News while chopping a guy with an axe is clever.

The first 2/3 of this movie is great. There are several funny lines. The last part of the movie is very surreal, but logical considering the insanity Christian Bale portrays in the lead. I can’t believe Leonardo DiCaprio wanted to do this role. He would have been too young and it would have killed his career. Christian Bale’s career isn’t a problem because his different movies are so diverse that you can’t label him like so many other actors.

I recommend American Psycho to those who like dark comedies.

I give American Psycho *** out of ****.

I definately agree with Mat, that this movie is quite funny. The gore only makes it better. My favorite scene happens to be when Christian Bale chops the hell out of that one guy, will talking about Huey Lewis and the News. The whole up to the "climax" was excellent.

This movie has an ending, that has been used a few times before in horror movies, and it always pisses me off, but I did like how they did it. Part ofme was angered at the ending, whilethe other part liked how they handled it. Christian Bale is fantastic in the movie. I liked how he talked. The dialogue was wonderful, and I liked the scene where one of the business men, think that Christian Bale's character is coming out of the closet with him.

***1/2 out of ****
