I just saw this movie for the second time on TV the other day, so i'm writing a review of it. The story is, there is this military base run by Jack Nicholson. This kid dies and two marines go to trial. Tom Cruise and Demi Moore are the lawyers. No zaniness ensues, but a couple of hijinks do. What powers this movie is good acting performances and a solid screenplay, two most basic things in a movie. Tom Cruise is pretty good in this movie, Demi Moore is pretty good, but the standout performance is definitely Jack Nicholson. He rocks my world. Umm, this movie was a little long and tended to bog down at points. Courtroom scenes are always risky in a movie, and this movie has a lot of them. Some of them work, some of them don't. Overall, the storyline itself is a bit dumb, but the acting and writing save this movie. But, above all, most importantly, i found watching this movie to be a very enjoyable experience overall. Probably one of the least painful Tom Cruise movies, and definitely the least painful Kevin Bacon movie. I give it 3.5 stars out of 4. It's
definitely a worthwhile rental. |
